SFIC Online Briefing for Faith Leaders to Address COVID-19 Hate Speech Targeted at Asian People
As the world struggles to cope with the deadly COVID-19 pandemic, the rise of xenophobia threatens many vulnerable communities around the world, with the United Nations warning of "a tsunami of hate and xenophobia, scapegoating and scaremongering." Since the start of the pandemic, people of East Asian and Southeast Asian descent and apperance around the world have been subjected to Sinophobia, or anti-Chinese, with racist attacks against people from Asian countries and related hate crimes escalating. This week's SFIC Online Briefing for Faith Leaders, hosted by the San Francisco Interfaith Council in collaboration with the Department of Emergency Management's Community Branch will address the issue of COVID-19 hate speech targeted at Asian people both globally and here in our region.
