When we look at ourselves we sometimes get a distorted image. We see only our limitations and
inadequacies. We feel that we are never enough. The Sacred Gaze is how God looks at us. This is
the great second opinion of ourselves from God’s loving point of view. The contemplative life is a
way to see oursleves through the gaze of the Sacred. We find that we never have to impress God
with a resume of an illusional limitless self. God is a relationship, not a job interview. God loves.
God does not fire us or reject us, or judge us for mistakes. The contemplative path lets go of the
negative self-image, the self judgment, and the compare/contrast with popular culture. We get to
the ground of our divine nature.
