Date(s) - Sunday, February 26, 2017
3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Location
Peninsula Temple Sholom

Did you know that 56 Jewish Community Centers in 27 states have received nearly 70 bomb threats since January 4th? Or that over the weekend, 170 headstones at a Jewish cemetery in Missouri were desecrated? ING is calling on the American Muslim community to stand with our Jewish neighbors in solidarity and friendship! If we don’t stand up for others, who will be left to stand up for us? Conversation will begin at 3pm and continue to 5:00 pm at Peninsula Temple Sholom in Burlingame. Light refreshments will be served.

Muslims should feel a special urgency to stand up for Jews at this time, because Jews have been standing up for Muslims in a public and vocal manner in the current wave of Islamophobic statements and actions over the last few weeks and months.

On February 6 in New York, some 20 rabbis were arrested after blocking the street near Trump Tower in protest against the anti-Muslim travel ban. On February 12, thousands of Jews nationwide, including hundreds in both Mountain View and San Francisco, participated in a national day of Jewish action for refugees to protest President Trump’s travel ban and proclaim their solidarity with the Muslim community. Jews were prominent among the thousands who flooded the San Francisco and other airports across the country in response to the ban.

Jews and Muslims know from their history that it is precisely when people are facing divisive attacks that they most need to stand together. For both communities, the enemy is xenophobia: fear of the Other. We need to confront this enemy together, not with hatred or rage but by showing mutual love and support across any boundaries that might threaten to divide us. Please join us as Muslims and Jews come together this Sunday at Peninsula Temple Sholom in Burlingame.
