SFIC Online Briefing with SF Assessor-Recorder Carmen Chu on Work of SF Economic Recovery Task Force
In addition to the widespread physical health repercussions of COVID-19, the precautionary "Shelter-in-Place" measures have had a dramatic impact on the economy, sparking the closure of businesses, catalyzing unparalleled spikes in unemployment, as well as putting at risk access to food, housing and health care for our most vulnerable residents. Anticipated City budget deficits over the next two years are estimated at $1.7 billion and higher, which means inevitable cuts in contracts, staff and programs that provide the safety-net for those who cannot care for themselves. In response, San Francisco Mayor London Breed and Board of Supervisors President Norman Yee called for the creation of the San Francisco Economic Recovery Task Force. The Task Force is charged with guiding the City's efforts through the COVID-19 recovery, sustaining and reviving local businesses and employment, mitigating the economic hardships already affecting the most vulnerable San Franciscans, and building a resilient and equitable future. City Assessor-Recorder Carmen Chu, Co-Chair of the Task Force, will be the featured guest for this week's "Online Briefing for Faith Leaders," hosted by the San Francisco Interfaith Council in collaboration with the Department of Emergency Management's Community Branch.
