About this Event
Topic: Bridging Faith and Science to Combat the Overdose Crisis
Featured Presenter: Rev. Elaine Donlin, Buddhist Church of San Francisco
The U.S. overdose crisis is among the most pressing and indiscriminate health challenges of our time. Communities of faith are not exempt from the overdose crisis, but rather poignant reminders that addiction is no respecter of persons based on religion, income, race, age, ethnicity, or sexual orientation.
Provisional data from CDC's National Center for Health Statistics identifies an estimated 107,543 drug overdose deaths in the United States during 2023 (that’s 12 deaths every hour of each day). The hopeful news is that overdose deaths are preventable and solutions to the crisis lie within our communities.
December SFIC Monthly Breakfast Featured Presenter Rev. Elaine Donlin will help attendees recognize the signs of an opioid overdose and how to administer the life-saving opioid overdose reversal drug NARCAN, which will be provided following the presentation.
