ORIENTATION TO SIX-WEEK ONLINE TRAINING "EMPOWERING OLDER ADULTS"
Communities of faith are hubs where older adults feel safe, valued and may escape social isolation. Faith and lay leaders entrusted with their spiritual care are, more often than not, first responders in instances when the well being of older adults is at risk. To better equip faith-affiliated caregivers with the necessary insights, skills and resources to minister to this vulnerable sector, the San Francisco Interfaith Council (SFIC), in collaboration with the San Francisco Department of Disability and Aging Services (DAS) and the Institute on Aging (IOA), supported by a grant from the Metta Fund, will offer a six-week online training series entitled, "Empowering Older Adults." The curriculum comprising this series will include: 1) Elder Abuse & Prevention; 2) Important Resources; 3) Injury Prevention; 4) Isolation; 5) Ageism & Ableism; and 6) Talking About End of Life Issues. Continuing Education Unit (CEU) Certification Credit Option is available for members of the clergy. This week's Online Briefing for Community & Faith Partners welcomes the Empowering Older Adults Planning Committee who will offer an orientation on the training series, what to expect and how to make the most of the experience.
