IDST 4 Ways of Faith (3)

This interdisciplinary course introduces the scriptural, symbolic, and artistic traditions of the world's major faiths: Hinduism, Buddhism, Taoism, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. The class also considers how knowledge of these religious systems can serve to advance world peace.

After successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

• Outcome 1: Define the foundational beliefs and practices of the world faiths as expressed in their preeminent scriptural writings.
• Outcome 2: Compare and contrast the core beliefs of the world religions.
• Outcome 3: Demonstrate an aesthetic understanding of the symbols and sacred sites of the global faiths.
• Outcome 4: Analyze the spiritual arts of the major faith traditions through the ages in various cultures, including literature, music, painting, sculpture, and architecture.
• Outcome 5: Demonstrate informed value judgments about how the knowledge of these religious systems can serve to advance world peace.
