Service for Service (In-Person and Livestream)
Thursday, September 9 @ 5:30 pm – 6:30 pm
Service for Service gathers interfaith leaders and community members to honor the dedication of essential workers and those who have died in the pandemic. To those essential workers: for your heroic and sometimes unseen labors, we gather together to say “thank you,” and to uphold you with the loving-kindness you have shown to so many who are impacted by COVID-19 and other conditions during the pandemic.
Inspired by former Grace Cathedral chorister and rising Dartmouth freshman Ryan Tabibian, Service for Service gathers the wisdom of our diverse traditions and the beauty of choral music. Confirmed participants include Rabbi Jessica Zimmerman-Graf, Senior Rabbi, Congregation Sherith Israel; Michael G. Pappas, MDiv, Executive Director, San Francisco Interfaith Council; Fatih Ferdi Ates, Director, Pacifica Institute; Jisan Tova Green, San Francisco Zen Center; Elizabeth Padilla, Program Manager, Anubhuti Retreat Center; the Very Rev. Malcolm Clemens Young, ThD, Dean, Grace Cathedral; the Right Rev. Dr. Marc Handley Andrus, Bishop, Episcopal Diocese of California. With music from the Grace Cathedral Choir of Men and Boys, and greetings from San Francisco Mayor London Breed, and UCSF Infectious Disease Specialist George Rutherford.
Advance registration is recommended. For those not preregistered, names and emails will be collected at the door for contact tracing. Masks must be worn and social distancing protocols followed.
Following the guidance of public health officials and our Bishop, we now require that everyone 12 years and older show proof of COVID vaccination before entering the cathedral. To expedite your check-in process visit gracecathedral.org/vax to upload your vaccination verification and receive quicker entry with our Grace Pass. You will receive your Grace Pass within 24 hours if you submit it between Sunday – Thursday.
