SFIC Online Briefing for Faith Leaders: Impact of COVID-19 on Addictions in San Francisco

Since the outbreak of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, experts have not been surprised to see upticks in alcohol and substance-related addiction and spikes in regional overdose deaths. Reports of people in recovery having an especially difficult time and relapsing are also on the rise. Compared to a year ago, alcohol sales have increased dramatically and, although the national data is not yet available on drug abuse and treatment, the outlook is concerning. The San Francisco Interfaith Council (SFIC) welcomes San Francisco Department of Public Health Street Medicine & Shelter Health Medical Director Dr. Barry Zevin, supported by the Department's Addiction Psychiatry/Substance Use Services expert Dr. David Pating, who will address the issue of COVID-19's impact on addictions in our City, as the featured presenters at this week's Online Briefing for Faith Leaders. This program is hosted by the San Francisco Interfaith Council in collaboration with the San Francisco Emergency Operations Center's Joint Information Center.
