Presented by William J. Dohar, Ph.D., an Adjunct Associate Professor in the
Religious Studies Department at Santa Clara University (SCU) and a courtesy
appointment to Jesuit School of Theology. His main areas of research,
publication, and teaching are medieval Christianity, popular religion, the
history of pastoral care, and Christian spirituality.

What is Mysticism? Can anyone be an ordinary mystic? What can we learn from
the mystics?

Don’t let the word “mystic” scare you. It simply means one who has moved from
mere belief systems or belonging systems to actual inner experience. All spiritual
traditions at their mature levels agree that such a movement is possible, desirable,
and even available to everyone.

The early mothers and fathers of the Church professed that God, by taking on
human flesh, said yes to all that was physical, material, and earthly.
Join us for this sharing of insights of some of the great mystical voices of the
Christian tradition and how their various struggles make them great examples for
Catholic Christians today.
